Can you drive to our quilt show?
I live in Grand Forks, North Dakota and will drive up to 500 miles one way to judge a show. (Mileage expenses at the current IRS rate are added to judging, lecturing, and other fees.) With further distances, airfare is a required travel expense.

Would you consider staying overnight at a guild member's home?
Yes, as a cost saving measure, I would stay overnight in a non-smoking, pet-free home with my own bedroom. I request a bathroom separate from the host family.
-
Will you travel internationally to judge?
Yes! Grand Forks and Fargo ND have flight options for me. Also, I live 150 miles from Winnipeg, Manitoba and could drive there if Winnipeg provides better connections or rates to your city. My passport is ready.

Who chooses the categories for a quilt show?
The quilt show sponsor establishes the categories offered at their show. Rules can vastly vary. Read the entry information carefully and measure your quilts. If your group is interested hearing more information, consider booking Colleen’s lecture, The Judging Process.

How many quilts can be judged in a day?
The best answer is “It depends.” Let’s talk about it. Many factors play into a maximum speed. The number of volunteers as well as their agility and hearing can be key considerations. Volunteers move quilts, hold quilts, and scribe comments for feedback to the entrant. Recordkeeping is another consideration. If you’ve never hosted a show, ask lots of questions and prepare to enlist top-notch volunteers.

What is your favorite quilt style?
I simply do not have a personal favorite I enjoy creating quilts in many styles. I like to explore and learn about different cultures, history, and evolving styles of art. My most recent quits are art and modern quilts.
